The variance in transmissivity would be dependent <br />upon the amount of clay and other fine material within the formation. <br />A properly designed and constructed well fully penetrating l00 feet of <br />this glacial material, could be expected to yield between 25 to 250 <br />gallons per minute. <br />Water quality in this glacial alluvial aquifer is not fully k~{own. <br />The aquifer is, however, recharged directly by perennial, spring <br />fed streams, specifically Williams Creek, P:ard Creek and Cottonwood <br />Creek. All of these supply good quality water as recharged to the <br />aquifer, indicating that the aquifer should also contain good <br />quality water. It is known that a number of wells penetrate this <br />aquifer and the water is utilized directly for domestic potable <br />supply. The only accurate quality data from the shallow aquifer in <br />the area is an analysis from the Hodges Well located in Section 1. <br />The analysis is included in Figure 2.04.5-6, and was obtained <br />.from records of the U.S. Geological survey. The shallow alluvial <br />water is acceptable for direct potable consumption, and meets all <br />recommended health standards, <br />Specific well log completion information from wells in the Red <br />Canyon #1 Mine and proposed #2 tfine area is not available. A <br />complete list of all registered wells in the area of the mine permit <br />area is given in Figure 2.04.5-1. The Geology Map, 2.04.5-1, <br />and the Bedrock Configuration D1ap, 2.04.5-2, give the total depth <br />and location of other wells in the area, but no logs are available <br />to determine precisely which. aquifer these wells penetrate, except <br />for the Hodges well and the Lasater well. Refer to Figures 2.04.5-6, 2.04.5-7, 2.04.5-8, <br />2.04.5-9, 2.04.5-10, and 2.04.5-10a. ~ <br />The only wcll~ which appear to penetrate and utilize aquifers <br />which would be affected by mining the "D" and "E" coal seams are <br />limited to the t•7att and Rodgers wells in Section 12 and the Laster <br />~nd Cargill well located in Section 11.
