• Noxious Weed Control Plan
This weed control plan is concerned with the control of all varieties of noxious weeds on
the mine site. The spread of Canada Thistle and Russian knapweed in the area is of great
concern.
Weed control will be accomplished by cutting thistles and by spot spraying individual
thistles and patches of thistles and Russian Knapweed with an industrial herbicide.
Spraying will be done by use of a backpack spray system or an ATV mounted spray tank.
An industrial herbicide recommended by the Delta County Extension Service will be used
to control all types of thistle, Russian knapweed and other noxious weeds. The current
recommended herbicide is Curtail. Other herbicides may be utilized if they are
recommended or approved by the Delta County Extension Service.
To control the noxious broadleaf weeds in small areas Curtail will be applied at the rate
of 2.0 oz/gallon. It will not be applied when spray particles may be carried by air currents
to areas where desirable plants are growing. It may be applied up to the edge of Hubbard
Creek but spray particles will not be allowed to come in contact with the water surtace.
Pesticide containers will be triple rinsed and the rinse water will be sprayed on an
established gravel roadway. All specimen label recommendations will be followed.
• Exhibit AA shows the location where spot spaying is planned and also shows areas of
thistle infestation which cover over 100 square feet. Treated areas over 100 square feet
in area will be examined each fall to determine if reseeding is appropriate.
•
113iv Revised 01/27/99
