• • Methods to be used for sampling of revegetated areas
are:
Cover: Dotal herbaceous cover will be sampled using
the point intercept method. One sample will consist of a ran-
domly located and oriented transect at least 30 meters in length,
with at least fifty data points at regular intervals alone the
transect. :a minimum of five transects per community will be
sampled then sample adequacy will be tested and addition tran-
sects will be sampled if required to attain sample adequacy.
Ground cover will be determined at each of the sample points and
classified as vegetation, rock, soil or litter. Vegetation will
also be classified bs- species. Vegetation intercepted below the
first hit will be recorded separately. First hits will be used
to calculate totsl absolute percent cover. All hits will be used
to calculate relative cover or frequency.
Productivity: Total herbaceous productivity will be
estimated from 1-m~ random quadrats by clipping live current year
production at ground level. Parts of plants rooted within the
quadrat but not occupying the volumetric vertical projection of
the quadrat will not be harvested. Plants not rooted within the
quadrat but occupying space within its volumetric vertical
projection will be harvested. Clipped material will be oven
dried to constant weight and weights recorded to the nearest 0.1
• gram. Data caill be reported on a lb/acre basis. A minimum of b
plots will be clipped in each revegetated community then sample
adequacy will be tested and additional plots clipped if necessar}-
to attain sample adequacy.
Shrub Density: Total number of stems per acre will be
measured through counting stems that are rooted in rectangular
plots, 1 meter by a0 meters. The rectangular plots will be cen-
tered along the cover transects. A minimum of five shrub density
plots per revegetated community caill be sampled in each
revegetated community then sample adequacy will be tested and ad-
ditional plots will be counted if necessary to attain sample
adequacy.

ll:iii (Rev. 1'L-',~.~}-901
