• -35-
We can see it -- we can see it from my classroom door. It is a concern of
ours also that airborne particles would impact on us. Now, the reason I
mentioned that is because in our sister town Questa, New Mexico, one hour
south of us, the dust that was in the air - and I saw same just two weeks ago,
because we're in a windy season now -- this whole area was just -- you
couldn't see it. The brown cloud of Denver paled compared to what we could
see there. Now in Questa, the kids were suffering from eye irritation and
lung problems, and the school had to be moved; they had to rebuild another
school. We do not want that to happen to us. Thal: is the end of my
presentation. Thank you.
MR. N. COHEN: Charlie, can I just ask you one question? The map that
you showed a few slides bads that showed the flood plain and had the blue
lines, who prepared that map and explain a little bit about that map. By the
way, a copy Qf that is attached to the back of the brief.
• MR. JAQUEZ: Okay. This map was prepared by the Colorado Water
Conservation Board, December, 1988. What we heard at that time was right
here, where the cyanide heap leach pad is, if that was here in Denver and that
was going to be condominiums or if it was going to be a shopping center it
would be of great concern that it is was built on a flood plain.
MR. JOUFLAS: Thank you, very much. --(Inaudible discussioml--
MR. N. COHEN: Our next witness is Joe Villapondo, who is not sworn in.
MR. JOUFLAS: All right. Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole
truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?
MR. VILLAPONDO: I do.
MR. JOUFLAS: Thank you. Be seated.
