• -16-
UNIDENTIFIED VOICE: I'm sorry, I hate to interrupt but we cannot hear a
thing back here. It's like you're just talking between each other. We cannot
hear anything.
MR. JOUFLAS: Everybody speak up, please.
MR. RENNER: We expected that rate of evaporation would be the
controlling factor as to standing water within the pit area. The evaporation
rate in the area is 40 inches per year. If over the course of a season, we do
not see that sort of evaporation and water ended up standing for longer than
that period of time, I think that's when we begin the discussions as to what
steps will be necessary to mitigate that.
MR. HOLDER: Is that spelled out somewhere or is it a common
understanding?
• MR. RENNER: I believe it is, perhaps not in those exact words but it is
spelled out in the permit application.
MR. DANIELSON: That's
that if it rains six inches
the bottom of the pit just
else. But the question is,
take some measure. What is
doing something about water
a concern I have, it that, you know, that I know
some afternoon there's going to be a mud puddle in
like there's going to be a mud puddle everywhere
how much water and for how long before we have to
the amount of that bond that is allocated for
problems in the pit if they arise?
MR. RENNER: We have not specifically bonded for that scenario, Luke, and
the reason being was that we feel that we have a commitment that the Company
would need to be in compliance with and to bond for that may be bonding for a
non-compliance situation.
MR. BANTA: We bond typically -- the way we bond for mining and
reclamation operations is that we bond on the presumption of compliance. --
