Tlie purpose of the site <br />investigation was to assess the likelihood of encountering jurisdictional wetlands, and <br />potential habitat for Preble's meadow jumping mice (Zapus hudsonius preble:~, Ute <br />ladies-tresses orchids (Spiranthes diluvialis), and western burrowing owls (Athene <br />cunicularia). <br />The site investigation consisted of a pedestrian and vehicle inspection of approximately <br />400 acres located within the E '/: and S % ofthe S W '/< of Section 28, Township 3 North, <br />Range 67 West of the Sixth Prime Meridian, Weld County, Colorado. The property is <br />bounded on the north by State Highway 66, east by Weld County Road 19, south by <br />Weld County Road 28, and bounded on the west by Weld County Road 17 and a fence <br />line (see General Location Map). Currently, the property has several ongoing land uses <br />including agriculture (corn and onions), oil and gas production, and residential Adjacent <br />land uses include sand and gravel extraction, oil and gas production, agriculture, grazing, <br />and residential. Findings of the preliminary site investigation are detailed below. The <br />general location of any species of special concern potential habitat and potential <br />jurisdictional wetlands are depicted on the attached map. <br />Waters of the United States <br />Waters of the United States, regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), are <br />all waters which were, are, or could be used in interstate commerce; and in Colorado <br />include (but aze not limited to) rivers, streams, ponds, sloughs, and wetlands. There aze <br />four irrigation ditches that are renmants of natural surface drainages on the Nix property. <br />Three of the irrigation ditches are Located within the NE'/. of Section 28 and will be <br />described from west to east. The first and second irrigation ditches form an L shape <br />bordering the northwest boundary of the site. The third irrigation ditch runs south to <br />north approximately 750' west of the east edge of the property. The fourth irrigation <br />
