• ' Banks and Gesso, LLC The backfill component of reclamation and establishing the proper slopes, will be concurrent with mining. Backfilling will begin once the near vertical pit slopes of the outer mining limits within each mining area are reached. Backfilling of areas will employ the use of settling fines from processing of on-site materials, as well as overburden materials. Exhibit F, the Reclamation Plan Map, shows backfilled areas. Topsoil Placement After final grading operations are complete, approximately 6 inches of topsoil will be placed on all disturbed areas not permanently underwater. Contour furrows will be established on the slopes to reduce erosion and encourage stable plant growth. Topsoil will be smoothed along the shorelines and furrowed as seedbed preparation for successful seeding and growth of native grasses. Discing of the topsoil may be required due to compaction while in storage. This will be performed prior to seeding, if necessary. Revegetation All surface areas disturbed by mining activities will be topsoiled and drill-seeded for final reclamation with the seed mixes shown in Tables E-1. These two seed mixes have been developed based on recent correspondence with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), who identified these mixes for use on a similar site near this proposed permit area. The seed mix specified in Table E-2 is for use on topsoil storage berms and other areas requiring a rapidly growing seed mix. Maintenance Mowing will be performed for at least two years after seeding to help establish regenerating stands of grasses and to control weed infestation. Seeded areas will be mulched with a straw or hay mulch, as needed. Fertilizer will be applied to areas of the site where poor nutrient availability is indicated by a failure of seed to become established.
