Well GW-S2W-4W exists in the II-W South euea. Monitoring for water quality at this well
began in June, 1980 and was discontinued in June, 1985. Monitoring was resumed in July, •
1997. Samples from this well display a CeMg-HCO~ type water with an average TDS value of
722 mg/I (range 341-1 2 8 01.
Well GW-S2W-18W exists between the middlr, and proposed south pit areas. Water quality
sampling was discontinued after the October, 1995 sample was taken. Monitoring was
discontinued since it was not dawngredient of the current mining area end also because a
sampling bailer with steel cable was lost down the well in September, 1991. It displayed a
NaMgCa-HCO~ type water with an average TDS value of 673 mg/I (range 614-7641.
Ground Water Duality Suitability. SCC has compiled lists of standards for irrigation and
livestock. These lists are composed mostly of Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment ICDPHEI standards, although other agency standards have been used if they are
more stringent or if the CDPHE has no standard for a particular parameter. See SCC's Yoast
Mine Permit Application, Tables 7-21 and 7-23, for a more detailed explanation of these
standards. These tables are in Appendix 7-11.
Table 7-47 provides a comparison of ground water quality in the II-W South area to irrigation
standards. Standards that were e:cceeded were cadmium at three wells, chlorides at one well,
pH values at four wells, fluorides at one well, iron at five wells, manganese at three wells,
molybdenum at seven wells (due to high detection limitsl, TDS at one well, sulfates at five
wells, and zinc at two wells (due to the galvanized pipe used in these two flowing wellsl.
Table 7-48 provides a comparison of ground water quality in the II-W South area to livestock
standards. Standards that were rixceaded were chromium at three wells pH, values at four
wells, and fluorides et one well.
Surface Water Quality end Flow
Introduction. Table 15-1 (Tab 11i, Hydrologic Monitoring Plan) provides a summary of all
surface water monitoring sites at :ieneca 11-W. Appendix 7-10 provides surface water quality
and flow data. Data provided for each site includes a TDS vs. time plot with a LOWESS
regression line (see previous Groumf Water Guality sectionl, milliequivalent tables, hydrographs
of flow data, statistical summaries of water quality data, individual water quality reports, and
finally remark reports.
Site SW-S2W-SG9. This site exists on Hubberson Gulch upstream of Pond 017. It was first
sampled in August, 1997. Sampl~as at this site display a CaMg-HC03 type water with an
average TDS values of 330 mg/I (range 320-3401.
148
