GF.,.^I~iAL: The following information and recommendations <br />apply to the four limestone quarries listed in Title I. <br />These four sites have essentially the same soil and the <br />same natural plant communities. Iri addition, a separate <br />paragraph is included dealing specifically xith the <br />Queens CacZyon Quarry. <br />~ B. IP1~P~+'PCRY <br />1. Soils <br />Paunsaugunt soils or soils similar to Paunsaugunt occur on <br />the Queens Carryon Quarry, the Pikeview Quarry, the Snyder <br />Quarry, and the Stack Land Quarry. <br />' The Pauaeaugunt soil is shallow and somewhat e:cceesively <br />drained, It is formed in residium from limestone. <br />Typically, the surface layer is dark grayish bnmwn gravelly <br />loam about 6 inches thick. The underlying layers are lighter <br />co5.ored very gravelly loama. Hard limestone bedrock usually <br />occurs at a depth of about 17 inches. About ly0 percent of the <br />surface is covered with gravel and flaggy material. <br />(~ <br />
