ALTERNATIVE TO POND SETTLEMENT OF SILT. ALL WATERS TREATED • <br />l BY ALTERNATIVE MEANS REPORT DIRECTLY TO THE CIRUELA CANYON <br />DIVERSION CHANNEL ANO INTO THE PURGATORIF RIVER. <br />ENGIPIEERING DESIGN CALCULATIONS <br />FOR ESTIMATING SURFhCE RUNOFF THE SOIL CONSERVATION HAS <br />IDENTIFIED THE TOPSOIL IN AND AROUND THE CIRUELA CANYON AREA <br />AND THE MINE SITE AS "TABLE MOUNTAIN LOAM". THE TABLE <br />MOUNTAIN SERIES IN THIS AREA CONSISTS OF SANDY TO CLAY <br />LOAMS. THEY ARE WELL DRAINED AND HAVE A MODERATELY LOW <br />(0.25) EROSION FACTOR. THE MORE SANDY AND SILTY LOAMS ARE <br />ON THE HILLSIDES ABOVE THE MAIN CHANNELS AND THE CLAY LOAMS . . <br />TEND TO BE ON THE LOW STREAM TERRACES. THE DIVERTED <br />DRAINAGES ARE FROM THE UPPER TERRACES AND HILLSIDES WHICH <br />ARE GENERALLY OF A MORE SANDY NATURE APID OF A GREATER <br />POROSITY. IP1 ESTIMATING RUNOFF COEFFICIENTS FOR THESE <br />AREAS. A SANDY-CLAY TYPE OF LOAM WAS ASSUMED BECAUSE OF THE <br />SEVERAL SOIL VARIETIES INVOLVED. ALL AREAS WERE ASSUMED TO <br />HAVE SOME CLAY-BEARING SOILS 41HICH HAVE HIGH RUNOFF <br />POTENTIALS. <br />RUNOFF COEFFICIENTS FOR THE INDUSTRIAL AREAS WERE ESTIMATED <br />TO HAVE P. FAIRLY HIGH RUNOFF POTENTIAL. THESE AREAS ARE THE <br />LOWER HORIZONS OF THE SANDY-CLAY LOAMS BUT BECAUSE. OF LITTLE <br />OR NO VEGITATION COVER AND RELATIVELY HIGH TRAFFIC LEVELS . <br />8 <br />
