MAXWELL (11NE <br />• <br />` DRAINAGE AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PLAN <br />SURFACE WATER AT THE MAXWELL t11NE IS COtJTROLLED BY A SYSTEM <br />OF DIVERSION STP.UCTURF.S AMD SEDIMENTATION CONTROL DEVICES. <br />THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED WITH TWO SEPARATE OBJECTIVES. FIRST <br />THE STORM RUNOFF FROM AREAS UNDISTURBED BY MINING IS <br />DIVERTED TO KEEP IT OUT OF THE DISTURBED SURFACE AREAS <br />BEFORE REPORTING TO THE PURGATORIF. RIVER. THE SECOND SYSTEM <br />CONTROLLS RUNOFF SILTING THROUGH SEDIMENTATION PONDS. <br />THROUGH FILTERING OF LOW DISTURBANCE AREA RUNOFF, AND BY THE <br />SURFACING OF SMALL AREAS WITH CLEANED GRAVEL TO PREVENT <br />EXCESSIVE SILTING. <br />ALL ENGINEERING WORK WPS DONE USING ACCEPTED PRACTICES <br />WITH HYDROLOGY AND SEDIMFNTOLOGY OF SURFACE MINED LANDS BY <br />HAAN AND CiARFIELD AS GUIDELINE. PUBLICATIONS AND A STUDY OF <br />THE CIRUELA CANYON DRAINAGE BY THE SOIL CONSERVATION WERE <br />ALSO USED IN THE ENGINEERING DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM. <br />DRATPIAGF OF AREAS UNDISTURBED BY MINING <br />THE MAJOR DIVERSION AT THE SITE IS THAT OF THE CIRUELA <br />CAtJYOtJ'S INTEPHITTANT STREAM CHANNEL.
