i
November 23, 1999
Mr. Carl Mount
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street
Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: M-99-098
Dear Mr. Mount:
• III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
RRCE~~RQ
or,;~,ol V0 yn ~6 7999
b & Geor;,9Y
I am writing to object to an amended Use by Special Review #897 request that is currently
being requested in Weld County by Camas, Inc. This USR is an expanded version ota
permit filed in 1990. If allowed, this permit would authorize gravel mining adjacent to our
home. I'm told that the DMG is involved in the approval process at the state level. I have
several concerns about the impacts that mining will have, including:
>Loss of wildlife habitat. Lakes provide habitat for waterfowl but ant much for mammals.
Noise and activity will have a negative effect on wildlife in this important riparian area.
Larry Rogstad the local District Wildlife Manager for the Colorado Division of Wildlife
has written several reports about this area, it's wildlife and mining. Mr. Rogstad's phone
Dumber is (970) 352-2143. See enclosed letter to Weld County planner.
>Disruption or elimination of drain tiles that drain the adjacent fields. I'm told that this
could result io raising water tables on adjacent properties when the lakes are lined,
forcing water to move elsewhere. If this is true, my basement could be flooded.
>Possibility otchanging soil stability on adjacent properties that could result in damage
to my structures.
>Depending on configuration of mining and berming, I'm told that this could increase
flooding of this area of the Poudre River
I respectfully request that you consider and investigate these issues during the review and
evaluation of this request for mining.
S' cerety%~p ,~
L 4-~-v~i
- e~~~~
Joe and He en Lohnes
13804 Weld County Road #64
Greeley, CO 80631-9331
