This will be an almost
vertical wall of very stable mineral material that will not require
stabilization.
3. 3ecause of t'1e depth of the top soil in the new areas to bD
opened, there will be sufficient top soil for all areas both old
antl new - to be covered to a dap: .1 of 6 to 8 inc'~es which is suf-
ficient.
4. Tile plant species in the seed application list should he
the ones used to revegetate tho area, with tlvo ch3npes. 1 recom-
mend t'~at Crested vl:ieat frass be substituted for Needle and Thread
frass at a rate of E lbs/acre. Smooth 9rome s:lould not be used at
all and :lestern llheat frass s'~ould not be substituted for.
5. l believe that the proposed seed mix will suffice for all
slopes since we have included species at least somew:lat adapted
to t.`1e drier, steeper slopes.
6. If, at the end of tlvo gro:ving seasons, you do not have
at least 20 pifion and /or juniper seedlings establis`1ed/acre, then
you should plan to plant enough potted pifion and juniper (a mix
would he best - pifion on t;~e better sites and juniper on tie more
rigorous sites) seedlings to brin3 t,1e count of establis:ied plants
to 2`1lacre.
I %lope this will be satisfactory. I t;~ink the above recommenda-
tions are both reasonable and yet sufficient.
Since el~ yours,
~~
.E. Owen, Ph.D. Plant Ecology
Director for Scientific Liaison
