No permanent water was observed within <br />the study area. _ <br />Climate <br />The study area is located in a cold, semi-arid area with a <br />mean maximum temperature (July) of 76° F and a mean minimum temperature <br />(Januarq) of 0° F (?ic*iamara 19i9C: 7). Average annual precipitation <br />in North Park varies from 12 to 20 inches and the growing season is <br />normally limited to less than 65 days (McNamara 1979c: 7; Gordon and <br />Kranzush 1978: 2). <br />Flora <br />Vegetatio^ on to proposed access road routes consisted prinaci:~ <br />• of sagebrush (Artenisia tridentata) and bunch grasses. Other plants <br />observed include snakeceed (Guttierrezia spy.), s-a11 barrel cacti, <br />limited rabbitbrush (Chrvsothacr:us spy.), and several unidentified <br />forbs. Seventy to eighty pence..^.t of•the ground surface <br />was visible in the areas where the vegetational cover vas densest, <br />essentially in the botto~v of draina¢ea. Elsewhere, particularly on <br />• the ridge tops and upper slopes, ground visibility vas 90°+. <br /> <br />
