l' Introduction <br />On May 19 and May 27, 1979, a cultural resource inventory was <br />conducted along two existing dirt roads in Jackson County, Colorado. <br />A sixty foot right-of-vay vas inventoried along both of the roads, <br />which are located in T9N, R79W, Sections 12 and 13 and T'9N, R78W, <br />Sections 7 and 18 (Figure 1). The inventory vas completed by Jane <br />L. Anderson, Ruth A. Henss, and Joseph J. Lischka so that the <br />Flatiron Pavi~ Company can obtain a permit to build an access <br />road to the 3ourg Coal property. The proposed access roads are <br />located on Bureau of Land Management (BLH) land (BLH permit number <br />C-28193). The inventory vas completed under the authorization of <br />Profess'_oml Services Artiq::ities Perrr..'t (?SAP) vo. 79-CO-034. :':1~ <br />report vas prepared by Jane L. Anderson and Ruth A. Henss of Pioneer <br />~ Archaeological Consultants and is submitted by Jane L. Anderson <br />in compliance with the Antiquities Act of 1906, the Natic.,~al Historic <br />Preservation Act of 196E and Federal rze:::tive Order 11'93. <br />Tvo sites, three localities and two isolated artifacts were <br />observed along the two roads. These are described later in this <br />paper. <br />Environ^e^^ <br />~siograohy and Geology <br />The study area is located ir. the northern portion of North Park, <br />Colorado in the Southern Rocky Mountain Province of [he Rocky Mountains <br />. (Armstrong 1972: 1+, 15, 18-19). North Park, a structural basin, is <br />surrounded by three Tertiary age. The Hedicine Bov and Park 3anges, <br />~. located on tF.e east and vest sides of the park respectively, are granitic <br />ranges with overlying sedimentary deposits.
