• 4.04 SUPPORT FACILITIES
The support facilities to be used for the Bear No. 3 Portals, including
the office, shop, and warehouse complex, and the coal handling and
loadout facilities, are shown on the Mine Facilities Map (Map 10). Many
of the support structures to be used at the Bear No. 3 operation have
been used to facilitate mining at both the Bear No. 1 and the Bear No. 2
Portals. The complete discussion on all the support facilities is found
under Section 2.05.3. Detailed drainage and sediment control has been
developed for the mining operation as discussed in Section 2.05.3. All
sediment control measures have been designed to prevent damage to fish
and wildlife and other related environmental values; also, sediment
control structures have been designed to prevent contributions of
suspended solids to runoff outside the area of disturbance in excess of
the limitations of both federal and state law.
As discussed throughout this submittal, the Bear Coal Company will
• conduct their mining activities in a manner which will minimize impacts
on the environment, public and private property, and miscellaneous
services found in the vicinity of the planned operation.
There are no operating oil and gas wells at or around the planned mine;
likewise, there is no coal slurry pipeline planned on or around the
mining area. The only operating railroad in the vicinity of the mine is
the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad which services the numerous
mining operations along the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The area
to be utilized for surface support facilities of the planned underground
operations will have no impact on powerlines, telephone lines, or water
and sewage lines within the permit or adjacent areas. No impact on the
services or existing facilities for the town of Somerset is anticipated.
•
4.04-1
