• CULVERT HYDRAULICS AND DESIGN <br />Culverts were designed according to procedures set forth by the U.S. <br />Bureau of Public Roads. The peak discharge fromthe 10-year, 24-hour event <br />was used to design all culverts. Culvert locations are shown on the Mine <br />Area Surface Water Hydrology Map, (Map 16a). Culvert Designs are <br />summarized in Table 23-18, Proposed Culvert Design Summary. Figure 23-11, <br />U.S. Bureau of Public Roads Nomograph, illustrates the procedure used to <br />size the culverts. It was assumed that rock headwalls would be utilized <br />at all culvert inlets and the HW/D ratio equals two or less. <br /> <br />r~ <br />L <br />23-153R Revised - January, 1991 <br />
