predominant land use, Total herbaceous production yielded values of 77.02 g/m2 or 685
pounds/acre. Woody plant density values reflected representation by three true shrub and two
tree species with a mean of 36.78 per SOmZ (0.7/mZ or 2977/acre). Twenty-seven species
were present, of which seven were graminoids, fourteen were forbs, one asub-shrub, three
true shrubs, and two trees.
Qualitative observations of the pinyon juniper woodland vegetation community revealed its
presence on slopes above the flat colluvial drainage basin bottom on rocky shallow xeric
soils. The community is dominated by the trees Pinus edulis and Juniperus os[eosperma
with a well developed shrub understory and a sparse herbaceous layer. Total vegetation
cover was estimated at between 60 and 70 percent and total herbaceous production at 50-100
pounds/acre. Species numbers were estimated at an equivalent number to the mixed
shrubland, but dominated by tree and shrub species, with significantly reduced numbers of
forbs.
A review by the Colorado Natural Areas Program of their database of species of special
concern did not identify and listed or candidate species within or adjacent to the project site.

L~
National King Goal LLC Page 8
King II Mine 2005 Baseline Vegetation Report
