44,03 ROADS
4,03.3 Light-Use Roads.
1
(1) (a) CWI currently utilizes light-use roads [o access hydro-
logic and subsidence monitoring stations. The roads
have been designed and constructed previously for ex-
ploratory drilling, recreational cabin access, and for
[he existing land use of rangeland, CWI will construct
a light-use road to access the OVIdM ventilation shaft
and water tank from [he Orchard Valley West Mine site.
One monitoring road accesses the east portion of the
permit area (hereinafter referred [o as fast Road)
around the old Farmer's Mine.
One monitoring road intercepts Steven's Gulch road
north of rile (~~I wellfield and accesses the central
portion of the permit area (hereinafter referred [o as
Central Road).
The other monitoring road intercepts Steven's Gulch
Road south of [lie CWI well field and accesses [he west-
ern portion of [he permit area.
All of these roads have been designed and constructed
• to minimize erosion and siltation, air and water pollu-
tion, and damage to property.
(b) The light-use roads were field designed and constructed
using accepted engineering practices. AppropriaCe con-
struction techniques and limited use of roads ensure
Chat damage to fish and wildlife resources and suspend-
ed solids are minimized.
(c) Tne three light-use monitoring roads have been used at
least seven years, and have demonstrated that actual
volume, weight, and speed of vehicles can be main-
tained. Vehicle access, other than wide-tire, all-ter-
rain vehicles, will Se restricted on [he OVId!TMI fan shaft
road, until vegetation is well established and monitor-
ing requirements are reduced.
(d) All light-use roads currently being used for cabin ac-
cess or ranching will not be removed. Such roads will
be reveg eta[ed [o minimize environmental harm. Any
light-use road used exclusively for monitoring will be
regraded to approximate original contour, if possible,
and revegetated.
(?) (a) All light-use roads have been located on ridges or on
• the most stable available slopes to minimize erosion.
Revised 08/01/55
Revised ]n/01/67
Revised 03/26!58
24
