The infor-
mation is accurate as of the above date.
Operator: Park County
File Nos: 1177-365, 80-9 thru 80-19 inclusive; 80-251, 80-252
General Location: 14 pits randomly distributed throughout Park County.
Several of the pits are located in similarly situated, relatively
gentle sites in or near South Park. Several others are located
near the Park Range and Tarryall Mountains on hill slopes or in
draws. Two are located near the South Platte River.
Acres: Gravel pits will range in size from 1-7 acres (the 9.12
and 10 acre figures stated in the agenda are in error).
Mining Plan: Most of these are old pits. Available topsoil will
be stripped and stockpiled from new areas, and stabilized. However,
because of poor soil development, topsoil will not be stockpiled
from three of the pits. For the most part, gravel will be extracted
using frontend loaders and bulldozers. Pit depths range from
approximately 8 to 12 feet. Extraction takes place on a demand
basis and the gravel is used for fill and road base material.
Diversions and sediment catching structures will be constructed
for the pits located near streams or in draws. Note: Agenda
item 1151 (file 80-11) is for reclamation only.
Reclamation Plan:
Final land use: All sites, except one, are designated to be reclaimed
for Conservation or Agricultural (pasture, range) use. Woodside Park
Pit (80-11) is located within a housing development (of the same name)
in the northern part of the County. It is slated to be reclaimed as
a game field (ball park, etc.). An alternate reclamation plan will
be instituted in the event that this plan does not materialize.
Slope Grading: Final slopes will be no greater than 2:1, except where
a particular plan states 3:1 or less.
Topsoil Depth: Topsoil stockpiled from new disturbance will be
distributed over the entire site as far as practical. The remainder
of the site will be graded, shaped, fertilized, seeded and mulched
to aid in the establishment of vegetation and inhibit erosion.
Species to be Planted: Three to four species will be planted (drilled)
at each site. Two of the sltes will include tree and shrub planting.
The complete species inventory is: Crested wheatgrass, Blue grama,
Russian wildrye, Western wheatgrass, Yellow sweetclover, Arizona fescue,
Intermediate wheatgrass, Smooth brome, Hard fescue~Pubescent wheatgrass,
Ponderosa pine, Rocky Mountain juniper.
Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer and mulch will be added as soil amend-
ments.
Timetable: Reclamation of Woodside Park Pit is to begin this year.
File 1180-13 will probably be closed out within 3 years. All other pits
will be mined for an indefinite period on a demand basis. Reclamation
will begin upon completion.
Additional Comments: Staff recommends approval of these pits. Park
County has provided written guarantee to reclaim these sites as per
34-32-117(1) (e) which states the affected lands will be reclaimed in
accordance of the terms of the permit and section 34-32-116.
