•
•
Section 780.12 (b)
Power Lines
(Because Energy Fuels utilizes many electric-powered mining machines, an
jintricate network of electric power lines are located in the mine plan area
to supply electricity to the three draglines, the Marion Z04 shovel, and the
Robbins RR-11 overburden drill. The locations power lines are shown on
Permit Renewal hlaps 4 & 5.

(Electric power for Colorado Yanipa Coal Compzny is obtained from Yampa Valley
'Electric Company. The metering station for the mine is located along Routt
County P,oad 27 in Section 31, Tov;nship 5 North, Range S6' Best. The major
substation supplying power to the mine is placed adjacent to the tipple
operations. Permit Renewal Fiap 5 and figure &7-21-2, depict the location
and lay out the substation. The various electric lines at the mine site
involve three different voltages: 69,000 volts (69Kv), 4160 volts, and 7200
volts. The pole diagrams for the various voltage lines are shown on Figure
25, Existing Power Pole Diagram.
jAccording to Bulletin 61-1U, Protection of Bald and Golden Eaoles from
IPowerlines, prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture, Energy
FFuels will not have to reconstruct any of the existing 69 Kv power lines for
~~ icompliance with the raptor-proof power • pole requirements. However,
G~'approximately 90 power poles containing both 4160 and 7200 •voltage lines
will need reconstruction. Two possible options for reconstruction are shown
in Figure 26, Proposed Raptor-Proof Power Pole Diagram.
~ihe costs of reconstruction of the power lines is estimated to be between
$250,000 to 5500,000. Because of this projected cost, Energy Fuels has
I
arranged for a meeting on•September 12, 1979 with the United States Fish and
Jildlife Service and the Colorado Division of Wildlife to discuss the
arious alternatives r'or raptor-proofing. Once a decision is reached,
Energy Fuels will begin reconstruction: Reconstruction will probably be
conducted during the fall and early winter of 1979-1980.
•
78G-40 Revised 11/20/87
