162 <br />• Site: 5RT23 (Fig,s 2, 28, 29). <br />site Type: Open lithic. <br />Location; NW'-;SE';, Sec. 9, T5n, R81w; UTt9 Zone 13, E317,600m., N4,474,560m. <br />Description: 5RT23 is an open lithic site composed of a thin scatter of <br />flaked and tools situated on the western margin of a small drainage basin. <br />The elevation of the site is 6770 ft. (2,063 m.), Local vegetation includes <br />rabbitbrush, sagebrush, wild onion, cactus, lupine, serviceberry, larkspur, <br />and grasses. The site covers an area 60 by 38 m. Water is available in a <br />seasonal drainage that lies 50 m. east. The site consists of flakes and <br />tools visible in unvegetated and deflated areas similar to 5RT19, 5R720, <br />and 5RT22. No visible concentrations or permanent features were noted. <br />This site shares the same general location with the three sites mentioned <br />above. There has been no discernable disturbance other than erosion, but, <br />• along with the preceeding three sites, it is known to collectors and is <br />adjacent to active agricultural activities. <br />Diagnostic artifacts: Projectile point, Type IVB; hammerstone, Type IA; <br />unifacial tool, Type IID; chopper, Type IA. <br />Evaluation: 5RT23 has no potential for yielding information important to <br />prehistory and should not be nominated to the NRHP. However, the site <br />should be considered for protection under other statutes if it should ever <br />be endangered, This consideration is based on 5RT23's proximity to 5RT22. <br />• <br />
