156
• site: 5RT19 (Figs 2, 34, 35).
site Type: Open camp.
Location: SE';NE!;, Sec. 9, T5n, R37w; UTM Zone 13, E317,820m., N4,474,780m.
Description: 5RT19 is an open camp situated on a small point at the base
of a north-trending interfluvial ridge. The site is exposed to the north
and west. Vegetation on the site includes sagebrush, cactus, wild onion,
serviceberry, grasses, dandelions, larkspur, and Gamble's oak. The eleva-
tion is 6760 ft. (2,060 m.). Water is available in a seasonal drainage
20 m. west of the site.
The site covers an area 40 by 60 m., although most of the cultural
material was found within 30 m. of the datum. No real concentration
of material was found, nor were there any visible permanent features.
• There was a thin scatter of flakes, one mano (Fig. 34), and two chipped
stone tools. These were all observed in unvegetated blowout-like areas
(Fig. 35) indicating possibly more material buried under the vegetated
areas. Three additional sites in the near vicinity exhibit similar charac-
teristics. This site is known to local collectors and has been collected
for several years. Cultivation is taking place 150 m. to the west, and
an access road to the fields from Routt Co. 27 runs directly adjacent to
the site, There is slight erosion present, and deflation is taking place,
Diagnostic artifacts: One mano, Type IVa; bifacial tool, Type IA; uni-
facial tool, Type IID.
evaluation: 5RT19 has no potential for yielding information important to
local, state, or national prehistory, and, therefore, should not be con-
sidered for nomination to the NRHP. Some effort should be made to salvage
. the site's contents in the event it is endangered by future development of
the tract. This action is called for in view of 5RT19's proximity to 5RT22,
a site strongly recommended for nomination to the NRHP.
