154
• site: 5RT18 (Figs 2, 33).
Bice Type: Open camp.
Location: NE';NW!;, Sec. 5, TSn, R87w; UTM Zone 13, E315,700m „ N4,477,110m.
Description: 5RT18 is an open camp composed of several concentrations of
lithic debris scattered over a small interfluvial ridge between Scotchmans
Gulch and an unnamed drainage. The site is located almost at the conflu-
ence of the two gulches, with a northeastern exposure. Elevation at the
site is .6640 ft. (2,024 m.). The local vegetation includes sagebrush,
grasses, and cactus. Water is available on a seasonal basis in Scotchmans
Gulch, 50 m. to the east. No visible features were observed. The cultural
materials, consisting of flakes and fragments of bifacial tools, projectile
points, and manos, were distributed in several concentrations in an area
60 by 70 m, (Fig. 33).
• The site is eroding and has been disturbed by a jeep trail that crosses
the eastern end of the site. Otherwise, it appears to be undisturbed.
Diagnostic Artifacts: Bifacial tool, Type ID; Projectile point, Type
IF.
svaiuation: 5RT18 fias a potential for yielding information important to the
regional prehistory. The site may have deeply buried deposits and will
shed important light on the use of the region by peoples in the regional
equivalent of the Middle Prehistoric Period. 5RT18 should be nominated to
the NRHP.
•
