138
• Site: SRT12 (Figs 1, 23, 24),
Bice Type: Open architectural.
Location: SW';NW!;NW';SW's, Sec. 12, Ton, R87w; UTM Zone 13, E320,200m.,
N4,466,570m.
Description: 5RT12 is an historic architectural site located on the west
end of a ridge.between Foidel and Fish Creeks. This ridge has a gentle,
north-facing slope that descends into Fish Creek. The site is exposed to
the north, east, and west, The elevation is 7640 ft. (2,329 m.). Foidel
Creek, 800 m. to the south, is the nearest water. The local vegetation in-
cludes poplar, cottonwood, sagebrush, and grasses. The site covers an
area 300 by 300 m.
5RT12 consists of four structures: a semisubterranean dugout with
log retaining walls, gabled roof and "sheet-rock" interior (Fig. 23);
'• three structures built of milled lumber, including an outhouse, a resi-
dente (Fig. 24 ), and what may have been a shop. Cultural debris includes
cans, stove parts, a saddle, wooden crates, and other trash. Some evi-
dence of recent disturbance by hunters or campers is visible. The struc-
tures are deteriorating.
Diagnostic Artifacts: None.
Evaluation: 5RT12 has no unique architectural features that serve as an
example of craftsmanship or architectural style. The buildings are sim-
ply too far decayed to have any historical significance.
Determination of the site's association with an event or personage
of national, state, or local significance will have to be made by a quali-
fied historian specializing in Colorado history,
