Site: 5RT30 (Figs 1, 22). <br />site Type: Open camp. <br />Location: E`iN1J~;, Sec. 28, Ton, R86w; UTt4 Zone 13, E326,425m., N4,470,025m. <br />Description: 5RT30 is a large open camp comprised of a wide, dense scat- <br />ter of flakes, ground stone tool fragments,and chipped stone tools along <br />both sides of a northwest-trending ridge. The ridge dips to the northrest <br />and is truncated by Foidel Creek 130 m. south. Although cultural ma- <br />terial shoo-rs up on both sides of a sandstone exposure that marks the crest <br />of the ridge, the material is much more extensive on the eastern side which <br />has been cultivated for a number of years. The site covers an area 50 by <br />240 m. Vegetation on the site consists of sagebrush, chokeberry, bitter- <br />brush, juniper,and local grasses. The site elevation is 6850 ft. (2,088 m.). <br />No permanent features were observed, but large areas of charcoal stained <br />. soils were readily apparent. The western portion of the site is eroding <br />slightly and subject to deflation; the eastern part has been disturbed <br />by cultivation. The site is well known to local collectors who informed <br />the survey crew of the existence of the site prior to the survey in this <br />area. <br />Diagnostic Artifacts: Projectile points, Types IB, IVA, IVD, VB, and VC; <br />two metate fragments of Type IA and one fragment of Type IB, mano Type <br />IVC, unifacial scraper Type IIB. <br />evaluation: 5RT30 has considerable potential for yielding information <br />important to prehistory and should be recommended for nomination to the <br />NHRP. <br />The site may have two occupational components: one dating between <br />1500 BC and AD 500, and the later dating sometime between AD 900 and 1800. <br />
