12a

• site: 5RT27 (Figs 1, 20).
site Type: Open camp,
Location: SE'-;NW';, Sec. 27, T5n, R86w; UTM Zone 13, E328,725m., N4,469,860m.
Description: 5RT27 is an open camp consisting of a sparse scatter of flakes
and several metate fragments, covering an area of 2,700 sq. m. in a plowed
field. The site elevation is 6888 ft. (2,099 m.). The nearest water, an
unnamed drainage that flows into Foidel Creek, is 200 m. to the east. Vege-
tation on the site consists of pasture grass and volunteer wheat. The site
lies on a gentle north slope and is exposed to the north, east, and west
with slight protection to the south. Cultural materials visible were
limited to flakes and three metates, two complete and one fragmented. No
visible concentrations of flakes were observed, and no features were re-
corded. The site has been heavily disturbed by agricultural activities,
• as it has been plowed to a depth of 8 in. or more. 5RT29 and 5RT30 lie
several hundred meters to the west of the site, and 5RT31 is roughly 800 m.
to the northeast.
Diagnostic .artifacts: Two Type IB metates, one Tyoe IIB metate fragment,
and one Type II core.
evaluation: Tliis site has been extensively disturbed by cultivation and
has no potential for yielding information important to prehistory. We
recor~mend that 5RT27 not be nominated to the NRHP. No further action is
required.
