Mayflower Mill, CO-0000426, San Juan County
Seepage Control Plan
Dear Sir:
The Division has received your proposed plan for seepage control from
tailings pond No. 4. The plan as submitted fulfills the first requirement
of Part I.D. of the discharge permit.
However, there are a number of questions concerning the information
presented.
Do the monitoring wells shown go to a depth below the toe drain?
That is, do these wells intercept any water that might be flowing
beneath the tailings pond in the natural alluvium?
2. When the tailings pond was originally constructed were the tailings
placed in direct contact with the natural alluvium or does the toe
drain extend under the tailings pond itself?
3. If seepage from the tailings pond can get to the natural alluvium,
will the measures you have proposed to control the seepage be
effective for groundwater below the level of the toe drain?
4. Concerning the field study, how was the seepage direction determined)
Would you send to the Division a copy of the water quality analyses
performed?
4210 EAST 11TH AVENUE DENVER,COLORADO 80220 PHONE (303) 320-8333
