SITE DESCRIPTION
SOILS INFORMATION
EXHIBIT B
The following information was obtained from site observa-
tions and the basic soils and vegetation information found on
line thru the USDA's National Soils information pages. The
following soils information is made part of this application.
Soil units are shown on the USDA map, reproduced on page 7
following this text. The photo map shows the surrounding vegeta-
tion features and soil types. This site lies along the southern
edge of a ridgline between Jarosa Canyon on the north and an
unnamed draw on the south.
This deposit is an deep gravelly deposit underlaying the
Davtone loam, 5 to 20% slopes soil series . The general soils description
that follows indicates that this soil is fairly deep. However,
on this site we found that the dark usable topsoil varies from 10
to 12 inches. Underlaying this topsoil is a red clay sandy loam
with gravel intermixed that will provide binder for the roadbase
material we plan to produce. The description is consistent with
that described in the USDA text. The gravel depth on the site
appears to be as deep as 100 plus feet since it is visible from
the top of the ridgline to the base of the road that runs along
the south side of the permit area. Along the edges of the
hillside along the road the gravel is visible and the land owner
reports that this visible gravel extends into the hillside and is
not a shallow cover that has sloughed off the top and trickled
down the sides. On this site the ridgline between a creek on the
north and the canyon along the south appears to be an alluvial or
colluvial fan resulting from glacial till left as the glaciers
retreated to the west.
4
