Lam.: ~. ~.~ilbcf u~:.1
coaro.imww
including the T:aenty :file Sandstone. If ground water in the shal-
low strata is contaminated by mine ash and sludge disposal, some
of the contaminants could enter the T<•;enty i~file Sandstone.
In the area immediately north of the Trapper ;Sine ([dell
Site GF), ground-caater levels decrease caith increasing depth,
down to some depth betcaeen coal seam "R" and the top of the Tcaenty
Mile Sandstone. Ground-caater movement in this region has a down-
ward, down-section component. Below that unknown depth, ground-
water levels increase caith increasing depth, docan to the Twenty
Nile Sandstone. Ground-water movement in this region has an up-
ward, up-section component. These docan-section and up-section
flow components converge at some depth between coal seam "R" and
the top of the Twenty PIi1e Sandstone.
In the Big Bottom area (idell Site GBB) near the Yampa
.` River, ground-caater levels decrease with increasing depth down
to some depth b~tcaeen 68 acid 14v feet. Ground-water movement in
this region has a dow~caard, docan-section component. Ground-water
moves from tt:e pampa River alluvium into the Upper idilliams Fork
Formation. Under these conditions, ground caater and any contami-
nants from the Trapper Mine area cannot move into the alluvium
or the Yampa River. Below that unknocan depth, ground water bevels--
increase caith increasing depth, down to the sandstone at 140 feet.
Ground-water movement in this region has an upward, up-section
component. These docan-section and up-section flow components
converge at some depth between 68 and 140 feet.

•~
1-2
