Mr. Tom
Schreiner submitted additional comments to the applicant in letters dated May 31 and June 1,
2000. The information and discussion below addresses each comment as it was presented by the
Division.
Response to Comments Received from Mr. Tom Schreiner, May 31, 2000.
5. On page 5 the applicant specifies that an overhead conveyor will be used to transport
aggregate materials from the Tanabe Pit across Bighton Road over to the processing plant at the
Howe Pit. Please indicate if the support structures will be removed during final reclamation and
if so, provide a demolition cost for removal.
The overhead conveyor system and support structures will ultimately be removed. The
cost for removal of the support structure on the proposed Tanabe site is included in Line
K of the revised Reclamation Cost Estimate provided in Attachment A2.
6. Please verify the expected depth to ground water in the wetland area, the depth of backfilling
required to produce the desired hydrologic soil conditions for wetlands, and the volume of
backfill material required (including process fines and overburden materials).
• The Addendum to the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, ERO Resources, states
that the depth to ground water beneath the proposed Tanabe site is from 20 to 24 feet (see
Attachment I of the May 24, 2000 applicant response letter). These values were taken
from well records maintained by the State Engineer's Office.
