Box 1629 <br />Grand~tion, CO 81502 <br />I~,~~-~ M ; ne <br />~pr„~M'9'~` ~ ~~. <br />Dear Mr. Bates: / <br />u t murMOn a n~ ~noc~ <br />w.u o u,e ..ws.vn <br />JUL 1 0 1998 <br /> <br />Dw3ngo Fleld OHICO <br />Ohrision of Minerals 6 Q~olopy <br />Re: Preservation of Surface Structures <br />Burro Mine No. 7 Reclamation <br />sec. 29-44N-18W <br />San Miguel County, Colorado <br />Federal Minerals Lease CO<'-52755 <br />The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recognizes the Burro No. 7 <br />Mine site as having important public value as interpretak>le <br />features for the uranium mining period of the carnotite raining <br />era of southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah, and wishes to <br />have preserved the following surface structures: <br />The Headframe and Hoist House for the Burro No. 7 M=_ne. <br />If possible, we would also like the Ford-model ore truck (from <br />the Burro #5?) pulled over and placed beneath the ore chute for <br />increased interpretive value. <br />All other structures, buildings, and the access road to t:he No. 7 <br />may be removed as part of the final reclamation plan. <br />During our field visit on June 15, 1998, with Mr. Frank E3arnett <br />of your staff, several items of safety concern were discussed. <br />As a result we would like UMETCO to perform the following) during <br />reclamation activity: <br />1.Remove the metal ladder up the ore bin from the bottom of <br />the ore bin to a height of about 12'. <br />2.Remove the wooden ladder to the power platform (ori east <br />side of hoist house) and place in back (north) of the <br />hoist house. <br />3.Fi11 the manhole entry at the base of the ore bin to the <br />ground surface. <br />
