_.~.---
~FF.OM ( GLVSRSO_.
•
PHGhE rYJ.
970 565 100?•
Feb. 12 1998 08:<SFM P3
5. In a field visit on January 30, 1998 we counted 18 test pits
' on the 158 acre parcel.
6. We cannot answer for the Dr1G (assuming this is who you mean by
"the Board"). rnie have no such form_from Mr. Stone on file in this
office.
7. We :nave no .spec ific mapoirg information zecording the number
and location of test pits frocr. June 5, 1997, ,Vie have, however,
visited the site a.-td find that .disturbance to the surface as a
result of the test pit operations is reasonable and no unnecessary
or undue degradation of resources has occurred. Enclosed is a map
prepared by our office which depicts the approximate test pit
locations. These are r_ot surveyed, but are a best estimate from
our staff based on topographical relationships in the field. Based.
or. .observations durirtg ;;ur most recent fie13 visit, we would
estimate the surface disturbance to be approximately 0.1 acre
disturbed with the operations. Disturbance associated with each
test pit varies from about 10' by 20' to 15' by 50' in size. Also
please note on the enclosed map the reroute of the road in the
southwest corner of the parcel. The original road. (depicted on the
USGS topographic map) was rerouted to the south for protection Qf
cultural resources, however the original align-nent is still visible
on the ground. _
As we have offered in the past, we would welcome a field visit. with
you to the site in Question. Vie stand ready at a time convenient
to }'ou and BLM to look at these issues in the `_ield and discuss
this matter with you further. If you have any further questions or
to arrange a field meeting, please do not hesitate to call me or
Clyde Joktnson at 970-267-6876.
Sincerely,
>-~~~--
Kent Hoffman
Associate Area Manager
Enclosure
