Dept. of idatural ktsuurues
This is in reply to your letter of June 20, 1984 and will address the points
you raise in order.
Attached is a copy of the Affidavit of Publication from the Pueblo Chieftain.
Exhibit B
2. The flood control berm to be left will be revegetated in accordance with
the final reclamation plan. VALCO will commit to using overburden to build
the flood control berme and using the eacese to add irregularity to the
shoreline.
Exhibit D
3. Rich Rhodes of the local SCS office just supplied me with this updated
information which I believe supplies what you requested. I am also enclosing
several Polaroid pictures of the area. They indicate quite clearly the
varied ground cover and the difficulty in giving a logical description to
it.
Exhibit E
2. The use of overburden in final reclamation is answered above in Exhibit
B, question-2, with the applicant commiting to your suggestions.
4. Mr. Rhoden did not comment on tree and shrub planting. As stated earlier,
the applicant's experience with other similar sites indicates fairly rapid
natural tree and shrub revegetation. VALCO will also make every effort to
transplant existing trees and shrubs into the reclaimed areas during the
mining operation.
