the fact that there will be no surface disturbance which would cause any sites to the disturbed. TCC's experience has
• shown that, except for areas where there are cliffs or significant outcrops, undermining and subsiding these areas does
not result in any surface disturbance, therefore, no surveys are required for these areas.
NW Mains Ventilation Shaft and Thickener Underflow Project (TROT-39)
TCC contracted with Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. to complete a cultural resources survey of two
potential shaft sites for the new NW Mains ventilation shaft, along with the associated access roads and powerline,
located in sections 16, t7, 20, and 21, TSN, R86W. The only cultural or historical site encountered was a previously
recorded historic irrigation ditch (Site SRT92]). The site was determined as not eligible for the National Register and
no further archaeological work was recommended. Survey results are presented in the Confidential Appendix, in
Exhibit 6M, NW Mains Ventilation Shaft -Cultural Resources Survey.
NMD (Panels 17 Right through 23 Right) (PR 03-06)
No new surface facilities are planned for the Northern Mining District. in reference to the SW/4 of section 3, S/2 of
section 4, E/2 of section 7, section 8, section 9, section 1Q N/2N/2 of section 16, and the N/2 of section 17 all in TSN,
R86W the survey was not required due to the fact that there will be no surface disturbance which would cause any
sites to the disturbed. TCC's experience has shown that, except for areas where there are cliffs or significant outcrops,
undermining and subsiding these areas does not result in any surface disturbance, therefore, no surveys are required
for these areas.
18 Right Ventilation Shaft (TR 04-44)
TCC contracted with Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. to complete an intensive Class III cultural resources
• survey of a potential shaft site for the new 18 Right intake ventilation shaft, along with the associated access road,
located in sections 2, 10, and 11, TSN, R86W. At the same time, Metcalf s project also included a Class III cultural
resource survey of a second potential shaft site, four proposed seismic lines and three proposed core holes. Four
isolated finds and a previously recorded site (SRT157) were found to be witlvn the azea of potential effects for the
projects. The isolates were determined to be non significant resources and required no additional work. Site SRT157
was recommended as "need data" by previous investigators at the time of the survey. Limited testing was conducted
at this site to help determine its eligibility. No buried cultural material was recovered during the testing. Therefore,
Metcalf recommended that the evaluation for SRT157 be listed as not eligible. No significant cultual material was
encountered during the survey and Metcalf recommended cultural resource clearance for both of the shaft sites,
seismic lines and core hole sites.
Survey results are presented in the Confidential Appendix, in Exhibit 6n, Twentymile Coat Company's 2004
Exploration, Class III Cultural Resource Inventory of Proposed Seismic Lines, Drill Locations and Air Shafts, Routt
County, Colorado, dated November 2003.
RULE 2.04.5 -GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF HYDROLOGY AND GEOLOGY
(1) Each application shall contain a description and map, prepared in accordance with 2.10, of the
peolo¢Y, surface and ground water systems, including water quality and quantity, of all lands within
The proposed permit area, the adiacent area, and the eeneral area.
