The Debeque phacelia grows no farther than a 10-mile radius of Debeque, Colorado.
Therefore there will be no impact during the 2006 drilling operations.
Sclerocactus glaucus (Uinta Basin hookless cactus) is known to exist in azeas of
elevation between 4160' to 5120'. Drilling for this project will occur between 5700' and 7000'.
Therefore, there should be no effect to this species.
The Penstemon delisis (Pazachute penstemon) is located in only five locations along the
cliffs of the Roan Plateau. Therefore, there will be no impact to this species.
In general, drilling activities should have no effect on the tazget species listed for this
area. Surveys for endangered or threatened species covering the access roads and drill sites will
be performed prior to exploration activities if required by the BLM.
Land Use
Agricultural, recreational, and coal nursing activities aze the predominant land uses
within and adjacent to the exploration area. County Road 205 transects the exploration area
along Big Salt Wash. Limited camping, hunting, and cattle grazing occur in the proposed
exploration area.
Cultural Resources
• Ark Land Company has contracted with Alpine Archeological Consultants, Inc. to
conduct a Class I site file search and an intensive pedestrian Class III cultural resource inventory
and evaluation of the access roads and drill sites. The inventory was completed in November of
2006 with findings submitted directly to the BLM. Two sites in Big Salt Wash were identified
neaz site H prompting the relocation of the site 100' north to avoid disturbance. Alpine
Archeological has submitted the report to the Bureau of Land Management. A copy of the report
is available at the Grand Junction office of the Bureau of Land Management.
There aze no other known districts, sites, buildings, structures, or objects in the
exploration area that would be affected by exploration activities listed on, or eligible for listing
on, the National Register of Historic Sites.
Proposed Access Routes
The Grand Valley Book Cliff Exploration Area is accessed by the existing Mesa County
16.00 Road which in tum transitions to Gazfield County Road 205 in Big Salt Wash. County
Road 205 bisects the project azea south to north and is maintained biannually by Garfield
County. Access to the individual drill sites from County Road 205 will be via existing BLM
roads To the extent possible, existing roads will be used for access and where available,
disturbed sites (wide spots, borrow pits, etc.} for drilling sites. Approximately 2.35 miles of new
road construction and 10.55 miles of reclaimed road re-construction will be required if all 16
holes are drilled (see Table I). Newly constructed access roads will average approximately 14
• feet in width. Drill sites will be approximately 100 feet long and 75 feet in width. Topsoil will
be removed, where possible, from drill sites and new roads and stored for use in reclamation.
