CONCLUSIONS
1) The alluvial tan soils encountered at the site consist oC a
combination of sandy clays and clayey to silty sands and
gravels with cobbles and boulders. The subsoils are medium
dense to dense and stiff to hard. Groundwater was not
encountered to the niaximurn depth drilled, 71 feet.
2) Foundations for the dewatering structure and thickener may
consist of isolated spread footings, a mat or driven
piling. Testing of soil samples taken from the site
• indicates the upper soils generally possess moderate bearing
capacity and erratic settlement/heave characteristics.
Providing structural fill below shallow footings should help
reduce foundation movement. A heavily reinforced mat, box
type spread footing or deep piling should also reduce
foundation movement potential.
3) Development of the site will require a considerable amount of
grading. The on-site soils shculd be acceptable for use as
structural fill. Fill embankments should be compacted to the
job specifications and tested by a representative of the
geotechnical engineer. Discussion concerning design and
construction as related to geotechnical aspects of the site
are presented in the body of tl~e report,

Chen & Associates
