Different kinds of soil, range sites, or vooAland sites are separated on thr
map by solid back lines. Within each area is an identifying symSol or
name. The following symbols arc sho.m on your map:
Cascajo Scrics - Ca. E
The Cascajo series consists of deep, excessively
drained soils. These :;oils formed on terraces in gra-
velly sandy alluvium. The slope is 5 to 25 percent, and
elevation is 4,400 to G,000 feet The average annual
precipitation is 12 inches. The average annual tem-
perature is 53° r, and the frost-free scagan is 195 to
175 days. The native vegetation is mainly plains
grasses.
In a repreaenLltive profile (fig. 2) the surface ]ayer
is light-brown very gravelly sandy loam about 10
inches thick. The next layer is very pale brown very
gravelly sandy loam about 11 inches thick. And below
that is very pale brown stratified gravel and sand that
extends to a depth of GO inches or more
Permeability is r:lpid, and the available water
capacity is low. Thc;e soils arc mildly alkaline to
moderately alkaline. Their root zone extends to a depth
of GO inches or more. Tllcse soils arc a source of gravel
for commercial use.
along the major drainageways. 1'hc areas cover as
much as 'L00 acres. This soil has the profile described
as rcprescntalivc of the series, but in small arcs in
lllc soulllweslcrn part of the survey arcs along the
Tfuddy Creek drainageway it has a thicker, darker
