For sandier soil, it would be <br />best to include side-oats grams and switchgrass; and if salts are present, <br />then western wheatgrass should be used in the mixture. Drill the grass <br />seed not more than 1 inch in depth. Slopes should be 3:1 or flatter, <br />and mulching the new seeding with straw will greatly improve the chances <br />for success. It will help prevent wind erosion and shade the ground to <br />help retain moisture. 4000~~/A c. of long straw should be anchored, immedi- <br />ately after distributing, with mulcher blades that will not cut the straw. <br />Mostly the native trees are cottonwoods; and if trees are needed, these <br />may be best to plant, or contact the State Forester for his recommenda- <br />tion. <br />Sincerely, <br />~ ~~ <br />r <br />Glenn M.
