early years of Edna Mine, the high BTU Lennox coal was selectively removed
• for the stoker coal market. As a result, portions of this seam still
existed even though the overburden may have been stripped above the seam at
one time. The Wadge coal seam was the most extensive seam in this area and
has been mined over most of the area at Edna Mine. Small portions of the
Lower Wadge seam have been mined in recent years. Exhibit 3.1-2 designates
the coal seams mined, and the areas and dates of past mining.
The land uses that preceded mining especially on West Ridge are
unknown. Exhibit 3.1-2 shows the disturbance that occurred before the
enactment of reclamation laws, the disturbance that occurred under the two
Colorado Reclamation Laws, and disturbance under the phases of the OSM
Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act. The areas shown on Exhibit
3.1-2 indicate man-made disturbances in and around the permit area for
roads, powerlines, buildings, beltlines and mining.
3.1.2 PRESENT AND FUTURE MINSNG
3.1.2.1 Mine Reserves and Production
No additional mining will occur under this permit term. The mine has
• been placed in permanent closure and only reclamation activities remain to
be performed.
Bonding costs have been determined in accordance with this mining
sequence that took place and may be found in the bonding section, 9.8 of
this permit.
3.1.2.2 Affected Areas
All acreage designated to be affected at the Edna Mine has occurred and is
undergoing final reclamation. The acreage affected by mining activities at
the Edna Mine is shown on Exhibit 3.1-3.
Exhibit 3.1-3 shows all areas affected by mining under this permit
including topsoil and overburden removal in addition to roads, powerlines
sediment ponds, support facilities and stockpile areas. The following
table summarizes the acreage information of Exhibit 3.1-3.
•
Renewal-3 3.1-2 June 13, 1997
