~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III ~
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Gove
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: June 8, 1989
T0: Mike Applegate
FROM: Nlichael J. Boyd, Reclamation Specialist /~~~
RE: File No. M-89-029
Adequacy Items
The following items must be addressed by the applicant in order to satisfy the
applicable requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-101 et seq. and the Mineral Rules and
Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Board-
Diawatering. Please provide details regarding your proposed dewatering
olrera~ions. What pumping rate do you anticipate will be necessary to
de~water the site? During what time periods do you intend to operate
the site each year? Will pooping be intermittent or continuous during
ttis period. Also, please provide information regarding the location
and design of the proposed dewatering trench?
2. Ditch Reclamation. The mapping provided indicates that a segment of
th' o in an avis Ditch will be relocated. Please provide
information describing this feature, including its physical
characteristics and capacity. Will the proposed changes in alignment
arni gradient pose any problems with maintaining the present capacity of
this structure?
Ponds/Shorelines. Have you considered whether or not additional
protective measures may be necessary to control wave action and prevent
erosion on shorelines exposed to prevailing winds? One possibility may
be to place riprap along the exposed shorelines. Another may be to
provide a region from 5' above the 10' below the water line of lesser
slopes to reduce wave action and provide an area of shallows for fish
habitat. We also encourage you to consider the possibility of creating
several smaller (15 acre) ponds with irregular shorelines rather than
two large ponds. This would provide additional wildlife benefits as
well as providing a more stable hydraulic/hydrologic configuration.
Alternate Mining Plan. Page D-1 of the application contains the
1~oT'owin9 statement: "If groundwater inflow into the pit becomes too
voluminous to handle efficiently the operator may change mining methods
215 Centennial Building, ~ 313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
