Lincoln County <br />Noxious Weed Management Plan <br />1. Introduction <br />In an effort to protect or restore the value of land in the State of Colorado, the <br />State legislature enacted HS 96-1008, the "Colorado Noxious Weed AoY' to take <br />effect July 1, 1996. In accordance with the Colorado Noxious Weed Act, Lincoln <br />County has completed the following noxious weed management plan. A copy of <br />the Colorado Noxious weed Act (CRS 35.5) is attached. <br />ll. General DescNption - Llnco/n County <br />Lincoln County was established in 1889 with the county seat being in Hugo, <br />Colorado. <br />Lincoln County fom~s a double rectangle on the eastern Colorado plains, 72 <br />miles long north to. south; 48 miles wide in the southern portion and 30 miles <br />wide at the northern end. There aye a total of 2,592 square miles of which <br />1,519,466 acres are privately owned, 2,368 acres are federally owned and <br />134,746 are under state ownership. The remainder if 2,300 is owned by county <br />and municipal entities. <br />The moderate Gimate allows an average growing season of 141 days. The <br />terrain consists of rolling prairie with some valleys and watersheds abutting the <br />South Platte and Arkansas Rivers. Principal streams include the Arikaree River <br />and the North Fork of the Republican River (located in the northrem portion of <br />the county), Big Sandy, Rush and Horse Creeks. The topography varies in <br />elevation from 4,500 feet in the southeast to approximately 5,400 feet in the <br />northwest. <br />Agriculture is the premier source of the county's economy, with an aggregation <br />of livestock grazing on pasture and rangeland as well as diversified, dryland- <br />farming practices. <br />ill.
