Excavation of the gravel pit will create advancing side slopes. Side slopes will typically
be mined no steeper than 3h:1 v slope so no slope flattening will be required before
topsoil is applied and graded to depth. The advancing face of the pit will also be mined
no steeper than 3h:1v.
There are no plans for an office or other facilities at the pit. A portable sanitation facility
("ports-potti") will be available during active pit operations. Equipment will be fueled
and serviced as required by a mobile service truck. A mobile (tire mounted) fuel tank will
be utilized during peak mining activity.
Periodically diesel fuel will be stored on site. A containment berm will be constructed
around the tank(s). The capacity of the containment berm will be 110% of the largest
tank plus an allowance for 1.8 inches of precipitation. The containment shall be
sufficiently impervious to contain fuel. Drums containing oil, antifreeze, grease, etc., will
be stored within the containment berm or in their own containment such as a stock tank
or similar structure. The location of the containments will vary annually and as the pit
advances.
A reportable spill is a spill of any toxic or hazardous substance (including spills of
petroleum products) within the permit area reportable to any Division of the Colorado
Department of Public Health and the Environment, the national Response Center, the
Colorado Emergency Planning Commission, a local Emergency Planning Commission,
or the State Oil Inspector. The Operator shall notify the Office of a reportable spill within
the permit area using the same time frame required by the permit, license, notice, Act,
Rule or Regulation governing the reporting of the spill to the appropriate agency. Notice
of a reportable spill shall be Faxed to: Minerals Program Supervisor, Division of Minerals
and Geology, FAX (303) 832-8106. The FAX shall include stall-back number of a
responsible company official for DMG staff to use as a contact.
The pit access road directs all truck traffic to the gravel pit along the north extension of
the permit boundary to access the existing private road.
3/7/06
