Sprague Mayger of United Companies accompanied you
during most of this inspection.
In response to the problems noted in the Inspection Report, I sent you a letter on August
28, 2001 and proposed Technical Revision 2 to the approved mining and reclamation
plans for this permit.
Technical Revision 2 has been approved.
With respect to Problem 3 cited in the CDMG report of the June 22, 2001 inspection,
"There are dead trees along the north edge of the permit area, though they are
required to be maintained live during the mining and reclamation stages."
I replied in my letter of August 28,
"Dead (and dying) trees located at the ncrh Permit bcundary will be replaced by
October 31, 2001."
Mr. Sprague Mayger, the Area Manager for United Companies in Montrose has located a
source of trees to replace the ones in question a[ the north side of the Colona Pit access
road. Two tree species, Patmore Ash and Newport Plum, have been recommended by our
supplier. United Companies plans to use both species when we replace the dead trees at
Colona.
These trees should not be transplanted before October 31, 2001 according to our supplier.
The tree supplier recommends that the trees not be transplanted until the leaves have
fallen and the roots are dormant. Damage to the roots will be reduced (and fife
