determine the premining characteristics of this stream. Since <br />• the establishment, in 1987, of another stream site (SW-S2-10) <br />further downstream at its confluence with Fish Creek, SW-S2-6 <br />has become redundant. Because of this, monitoring at SW-S2-6 <br />is proposed to be discontinued. <br />SCC proposes to discontinue monitoring of all natural springs <br />at Seneca II. Springs #1 and #2 exist in a pre-SMCRA area and <br />appear to be only slightly affected by mining. Average total <br />dissolved solids (TDS) values are 868 and 1416 mg/1, <br />respectively. Spring #3 is a poorly defined seep in a <br />seasonally marshy area. A measurable flow has not been <br />observed at this "spring" since 1984. Spring #4 has been <br />discontinued since 1984 since it is actually a pre-SMCRA area <br />spoil spring that exists outside the permit boundary. Spring <br />#5 is another marshy seep with a poorly defined flow. The <br />maximum flow ever noted at this "spring" was 0.8 gpm, and <br />often dries up by July. Thirteen years of monitoring at <br />Springs #1, #2, and #5 have well established their hydrologic <br />characteristics. <br />Spoil Spring #8 has an average flow rate of only 4.1 gpm. <br />Because it is in a pre-SMCRA area, monitoring here will be <br />discontinued. <br />The monitoring frequency for Spoil Spring #1 will remain as <br />is. The monitoring frequency for all remaining spoil springs <br />• (#2-7, 9 and 10) will be increased. Currently, monitoring for <br />these spoil springs is annually, after snowmelt, and consists <br />of flow and field parameters only (i.e., no lab sample). The <br />proposed frequency will consist of semiannual (May/June and <br />September/October) monitoring for flow and field parameters <br />and, if flow exceeds three gpm, a full-suite lab sample. <br />6. Table 7-81, Summary of Ground water Monitoring Wells, has been <br />updated, as requested, and relabeled as Table 7-98. <br />7. Exhibit 7-2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location Map, has been <br />updated, as requested, to reflect the current conditions and <br />the comments noted in the 1995 AHR review. <br />Tab 13 <br />4. Exhibit 13-2, Backfilling and Grading Schedule, is currently <br />being updated to reflect current conditions and projections <br />for the future permit terms. SCC will submit this exhibit to <br />the Division upon its completion. <br />• <br />
