- 3 - <br /> <br />• <br />presented in this report. <br />1.3 PREVIOUS STUDIES <br />Several studies have been performed within the mine <br />area by various consultants to Colorado Westmoreland, Inc. <br />Results of these studies may be partly utilized for the pur- <br />pose of our work. The studies were made available to us; all <br />of them have been reviewed and their results are used during <br />this phase of the work. <br />The studies include analyses of reclaimed configurations, <br />performed by Kenneth Medearis Associates, subsurface soils <br />investigation performed by Lincoln DeVore, studies for the <br />proposed coal handling system performed by ?'he Willis and Paul <br />Corporation, and the subsoil investigation for the water tank, <br />prepared by Fox Consulting Engineers and Geologists. In ad- <br />dition to these studies, the mine management made available <br />to us results of previous studies that provide data on re- <br />gional geology and hydrology of the area, and two sets of <br />aerial photographs which cover the area of the mine and its <br />vicinity. <br />2.0 SITE CONDITIONS <br /> <br />2.1 GEOLOGY AND HYDROLOGY <br />The area of the Orchard Valley Mine is located in the <br />Mesa Verde Formation of the Paonia Coal Field.
