Ground water does not
occur within the surface area of the mine. Because of the
north dipping component of the formation, there are no known
springs or seeps from the bedrock units.
2.2 ORCHARD VALLEY MINE SURFACE FACILITIES
The mine surface facilities that have been studied in-
clude rock and soil cuts excavated at the site, numerous
fills that have been constructed at practically all four
levels and along the gravel road which interconnects these
levels, and the proposed waste disposal pile.
2.3 GEOTECHNICAL MAPPING OF THE AREA
As part of Phase 1, the mine area was mapped onto a
map at a scale of 1 inch = 100 feet. The geotechnical map is
presented on Plate 2.
During our mapping and documentation program, all of the
important cuts and fills were mapped. Cuts are divided into
the group of cuts that have been excavated in colluvial soils
and cuts that have been excavated in the bedrock formation.
More important fills are indicated on the map. Areas not
affected by mining activities are separated from the zones
where excavations or fills have been made. The map also shows
the location of areas where sloughing, slumping, or minor
slides have been found.
During the mapping program important parameters of cuts
and fills, such as their heights and slopes, were directly
uo~ro~o cowurxw, mc.
