Prior excavation activities on the site have revealed that ground water is present
approximately 15 feet below the existing ground elevation. The water table fluctuates in
elevation throughout the year. Higher elevations are encountered during the summer
months.
VEGETATION - Galleta, wheatgrass, saltbush and rabbitbrush make up most of the
natural plant community found on the subject site. The total annual yield of the plant
community, by air-dry weight, typically range from 400 pounds per acre to 600 pounds per
acre. Cottonwood, Russian olive, and Carolina poplar trees are evident in the areas
adjacent to the creek channel. The subject property lies within a conservation area
identified by the Natural Heritage Inventory of Mesa County. The conservation area is
potential habitat where the Uinta Basin Hookless Cactus grow which is considered to be
endangered. On June 22, 1999 a survey of the property was conducted by experts. They
were unable to locate any cactus within the subject property. A reproduction of the report
can be found at the end of this section.
SOILS & GEOLOGIC CONDITIONS - No man-made geologic hazard exists on the subject
site. Additional geologic information can be found within the previously mentioned
Botanical Survey Report at the end of this section. The US Department of Agriculture, Soil
Conservation Service, in cooperation with the Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station
have identified single soil classification within the subject property. The location of the soil
type and a description can be found within the appendix of this narrative statement. A
general description follows:
Billings silty clay loam, (Bs). This soil is nearly level and is on flood plains and low terraces.
Included with this soil in mapping are areas of Youngston and Persayo soils. These soils make up
about 10 percent of the mapping area.Runoff is moderate, and the hazard of erosion is moderate.
Deep gullies are common throughout most mapped areas of this soil. Gullies are common
throughout most mapped areas of this soil. Gullies limit the beneficial effect of overflow and restgrict
use by man and animals. The soil is used mostly as range. Small areas in the Kannah Creek and
Whitewater Creek areas are used for irrigated corn, alfalfa, and pasture. Capability unit II -1
(irrigated), Vlls - 2 (non-irrigated).
MAN-MADE STRUCTURES located within 200 feet of the permit boundary which include:
Colorado Department of Transportation, 222 So. 6'" Street, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
(970)248-7212 owns and maintains the following man-made structures:
1.
