This is ccncernir.~ the reve~etation of
a mining operation lccated in TL~3N, RE3ld, Section 17.
The reve~etation gill take place at an approximate elevation of
10,000 feet, This is a harsh climate, characterized by a very short prow-
in~ season, kith this in mind, it would he best to follow the reseeding
recommendations as closely as possible to obtain maximum henefits,
Research and information gathered from other hifh altitude revegeta-
tion work shows that. native species would work best for reseeding, but
these species are not available commercially. Thus, we are forced to rec-
ommend some hardy int.rnduced species. The follewinp, species and respective
seeding rates should be seeded in +.he revepetation work:
Rear mountain brome !~ lbs./acre
meadow (oxtail C lhs./arre
nrimar slender riheatgrass L lbs./acre
°n~mo or ueidemy timothy 1 lb./acre
The seeding sho~•ld hP done the first part of August. Seed will he
hroadcast and should he covered t, to ~ inch with good topsoil over a firm
seedbed. .`'haping and grading should he dcne to the extent of not leaving
an: slope= over 3:1. Fertilizer should be applied at the same time. Ni-
trozen in pellet form would work w'th 50 lbs. of available nitrogen ar-
rlied per acre.
If ,you need or require any further assistance reel free to contact
e Soil Conservation in Mentro~e.
r ~
~~~V L `~14.~..
Lester F.
