Present vege- <br />tation is the same as Buffalo #{ 2 with the addition of little bluestem and sand <br />dropseed. <br />Reclamation procedures for both sites will be extremely difficult due to the <br />severe Iimitaticns inherent in the soils, The reco:mner_dations contained here will <br />apply to the revegetation of both pits. All areas to be reclaimed should be <br />shaped and graded so that no slopes will be steeper than 3:1. Where possible, <br />flatter slopes are much more desirable. Topsoil should be applied over all areas <br />to be revegetated. The topsoil could be salvaged from the overburden or imported <br />from adjacent areas. Topsoil should be applied after shaping and grading have <br />aen completed and the site tilled to a depth of approximately 6 inches. This <br />will permit the topsoil to bind with existing soil preventing air pockets and <br />topsoil sloppage. Fertilizer should then be applied at the rate of 50 lbs, avail- <br />able nitrogen and 50 lbs, of available phosphate per acre. Time of fertilizer ap- <br />plication should be immediately prior to seeding. <br />Seeding shall be done using a grass deill properly equiped to handle the seed <br />being planted.
